Children love playing with dough because it feels squidgy in their hands and is so easy to manipulate. You can buy all sorts of rollers and cutters and machines to put it through, but sometimes these things take away the simple pleasure of handling the dough and using the imagination to create new shapes.
It's easy to make your own play dough at home. Follow this simple recipe for hours of easy creative play:
You will need:
2 cups plain flour
1 cup salt
2 cups water
2 tablespoons cooking oil
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon food colouring (optional)
Place all the ingredients in a pan and cook over a gentle heat, stirring all the time. You’ll know it’s ready when the dough mixture ‘comes away’ from the side of the pan. Turn the mixture out onto a board and kneed well to remove any lumps. Allow to cool and keep in an airtight container in the fridge.
